Ans- Gandhi's brother had run into a debt of about twenty five rupees. To clear his debt Gandhi stole the gold.
He stole the gold by clipping a bit from his brother's armlet.

3. Why did Gandhi call the incident an object lesson in "Ahimsa"?

Ans- Gandhi thought after reading his confession note his father would be angry, say hard things and strike his forehead. But his father did not do like that. He cried and lay down again in his bed. Gandhi also cried. The tears drops cleansed Gandhi's heart and washed away his sin. Gandhi realized that this act of sublime forgiveness was the result of his clear peaceful confession, which he termed as "Ahimsa". Ahimsa has the greatest power among all. That's why Gandhi called the incident an object lesson in Ahimsa.

4. What qualities of Gandhi's character are reflected in this lesson?

Ans- In this lesson, we get to know about Gandhi's character. He was a man of Ahimsa. Truthfulness was his main things. When he stole gold he could not bear the guilt which was shows his quality of good character. He was brave enough to confess his guilt. He had huge love and respect to his father.
