a) Where did Lakshmi live?

Ans: A washerman and his wife were quarrelling because the wife broke his only pot and the fisherman did not have any pot to boil his clothes in.

3. Why did the people of the wedding party look sad?

Ans: The people of the wedding party looked sad because the man who was supposed to deliver the horse hadn’t arrived then. They were getting late and they feared they would miss the auspicious hour of the wedding.

necessary = দৰকাৰী

unimportant = অদৰকাৰী

essential = প্ৰয়োজনীয়

meaningless = অসাৰ


c) Several people came forward with information. (to offer one’s help / refuse to help)

(একাধিক মানুহে তথ্যৰ সৈতে সহায় কৰিবলৈ আগবাঢ়ি আহিছিল।)

Ans: Several people offered help with information.


came forward = আগবাঢ়ি আহিছিল

to offer one’s help = সহায় কৰাবলৈ আগ বঢ়া

refuse to help = সহায় কৰিবলৈ নাকচ কৰা


d) He smiled at them with gratitude. (showing disrespect / feeling of being grateful)

(তেওঁ সিহঁতক কৃতজ্ঞতাৰে হাঁহি মাৰিছিল।)

Ans: He smiled at them gratefully.


gratitude = কৃতজ্ঞতা

showing disrespect = অপমান কৰি দেখুওৱা

feeling of being grateful = কৃতজ্ঞতাৰ অনুভূতি


e) Don’t sit outside shivering in such a weather. (to shake slightly because of cold / remain still)
